The Lowell Southeast Asian Water Festival is a free
cultural event that attracts more than 60,000 spectators from all over the country--and internationally.
FESTIVAL INFORMATION
FRIDAY, AUGUST 19, 2005 5:30 p.m. ~ 10 p.m.
Floating Candles & Pre-Event Ceremony
Location: Middlesex Community College Plaza & the Lower Locks Canals (Downtown Lowell ~ corner of Market St. & Central St.)
Traditional Dance Performaces, Instrumental Demonstrations, Local Art Exhibits, International Foods & Monk Blessing of the Canal

In case of rain, all Friday evening performances & art exhibits will take place inside Middlesex Community College cafeteria.

FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
FREE BOAT TOURS 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. ~ Lowell National Historical Park will be providing free boat tours on the
Merrimack River. The boat tours will be
led by park rangers and youth interns from the River Ambassadors Program of
the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The tours will lead from the
boathouse on the river to the Guard Locks historic site on the Pawtucket
Canal. The tour guides will explain how the canals were used for
transportation and industry, as well as touching on themes dealing with the
environmental history of the Merrimack River Watershed. This will be a
great opportunity for spectators to get out on the
water without being in one of the Festival's racing boats.
Pick up your FREE tickets at the Lowell National Historical Park's table (located at the Games & Activities area).
Enter for your chance to win a 2006 Toyota & other great prizes! ~ Raffle Tickets are sold at the Information table.
Winners will be drawn at 4:30 p.m. on the Sampas Pavilion performance stage! (You may also contact our Fundraising Committee for tickets!)
International Film Screenings ~ Post Event (Downtown Lowell ~ National Park Visitor Center, 246 Market
St.)
6:00 p.m. "Belonging" a new European Cambodian film about a young woman's journey to her homeland after many years of separation.
8:00 p.m. "Reja Borie" a film about preserving Khmer Arts.
Film Screening donated suggestion ~ $4.00 for adults & $2.00 for children
Pick up your film screening tickets at the two Information tables (located near the Main Performance stage and the 2nd Peformance Stage)
or the Games & Activities Prize table (located at the Games & Activities area).
The international film screenings have been made possible by: The Light of Cambodian Children, Inc., The Nginn Karet Foundation for Cambodia,
the Patrick J. Mogan Cultural Center a program of Lowell National Historical Park & the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Directions & Parking
Due to the high volume of traffic, we will be providing free shuttle buses from various locations of Lowell to the Festival. We encourage you to take advantage of this service.
Two shuttle buses will drop off & pick up at the Train Station/Gallagher Terminal on Thorndike St., U-Mass Lowell South Campus & U-Mass Lowell North Campus.
Look for the buses with "Water Festival" on it.
FREE parking is available at both U-Mass Lowell campus parking lots.
